2) If you are military, you can check your eligibility to see if you even need to take the class at all. Some military do elect to take this class anyway, so that they are specifically informed about TN law. About half the class is TN law. Do I need a permit to carry in the State of TN?

No, but there are legal limitations you need to be aware of before you start to carry. - With the new TN Permitless/Constitutional Carry law that went into effect 7/1/2021, you can permitless carry IF you would pass the requirements needed to get an official permit, ie. not a felon, (https://www.tn.gov/safety/tnhp/handgun/eligibilityrequirements.html Additionally, permitless carry law does NOT allow carry in school zones, parks, campgrounds, recreational areas, beltways and greenway. In addition you cannot carry in other states, like you can with a valid TN permit.

Why should I take this class if I choose to permitless carry in TN?

There are a lot of legal "gottcha's" and unexpected surprises in TN law that can land you in a lot of trouble if you do not know the law. Take the class to learn more about how to legally permitless carry in TN without breaking the law.

There are several types of carry permits in TN. Which one is best for you?

The TN Enhanced Permit & TN Concealed Carry Permit are the most popular of the 7 available for typical civilians. Why choose one over the other?

This inexpensive 2 hour class is the only permit most people need (exceptions are noted below). There is time consuming class that you will quickly forget and NO costly live fire qualification, save your precious ammo! LOW STRESS! This permit has reciprocity* with 34+- other States., allows you to conceal carry AND you are now able to open carry in the state of TN without a permit (See reciprocity links at the bottom of this page).

Exceptions: If you are an employee at a property owned, operated, or controlled by the public institution of higher education(some colleges, universities, private schools) at which you are employed, and you want to be able to POSSIBLY carry a concealed firearm, or some first responders, or future firearms Instructors, or you frequently visit Nebraska (ie trucker), you should consider getting the Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit with the 8 hour class.

NOTE: There is no option for a "lifetime" Concealed Carry Permit. The maximum is 8 years. If you want a "lifetime" permit, you can get the Enhanced Lifetime Permit for $300. Do the math, some people will not live long enough to make the Enhanced Lifetime Permit worth while.

Can I Open Carry with a TN Concealed Carry Permit?

When the TN Concealed Carry Permit was first introduced, the short answer was "no". However, a year after the TN Concealed Carry Permit went into effect, TN Permitless Carry also went into effect for both concealed and open carry. Therefore, as of today, you can Open Carry with your TN Concealed Carry Permit. When in doubt, conceal carry. Also, when traveling to other states with your TN permit, make sure you know those States laws about concealed vs. Open Carry.

Can I carry in other states if I have a TN Permit? (Reciprocity)

Yes, you can carry in 34 other States with BOTH TN Permits.

RECIPROCITY - this is where States other than TN recognize your carry permit and allow you to carry in their State. Information about current reciprocity agreements can be found on the State of TN website. There are 13+ states where TN permit holders can carry, by default, because those states are constitutional carry states. TN also has many formal agreements with other states, as well as informal agreements adding up to over 34+ States TN carry permit holders can carry in, many in the South East. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO. Reciprocity laws can change at any time.

Why is it better to take your permit class in-person, rather than on-line?

Cheaper is not always better. Also, unsafe firearms handling habits cannot be identified on-line, nor can your questions be answered. There are so many on-line permit classes, some of my students came to me because they took the wrong States' class or were never issued proper paperwork! Even worse, if a class does not meeting the State of TN specific requirements, the wrong class could invalidate your permit! We are Certified by the State of TN Homeland Security to give handgun permit training. In person, I double check all your paper work and make sure everything is in line to make the permit process simpler, cost effective, and time saving!

Where can I take a class and how much does it cost?

This two hour TN Conceal Carry Permit class takes place at our location in Wears Valley, Sevier County TN at 2662 Wears Valley Road. We offer the unique opportunity for you to qualify on our firearms simulator! The price is $45 for the State mandated firearms safety class, and $65 for the permit (if you decide to get the permit, some people just attend for the learning).

How do I get my TN Permit?

Start by taking our class, then we issue you a certificate that you simply take to Motor Vehicles to finish the paperwork necessary to get your TN Concealed Carry Permit! We can get you scheduled and on your way!

Do you do private permit classes?

Yes, if you sign up a minimum of 4 people with you.

Can you do private classes for churches and businesses at our location?

Yes, call me to discuss what I need to have at your location to set up a class, how far I have to travel, etc. In some instances, I can arrange for some of the class fees to be donated back to the church or a charity of the churches choice.

Why do I need to leave a deposit to reserve a seat?

FEES: There is a non-refundable booking fee of $35 (plus 10% tax and CC fee) to reserve a seat for this class that will be applied to your class fee when you show up. The balance is due the date of the class cash or credit. If you do not receive a detailed confirmation email from us within 24 hours of making payment, please CALL US on the phone. The remainder of payment due is cash or credit only. No checks please. There is also more information on our Terms and Conditions page.

What are your terms and conditions regarding non-refundable deposits and cancellations?

Deposits on our classes are NON-REFUNDABLE. Please understand that when someone cancels last minute, we might already have taken the time to drive to the shop, used gas money to get there, and/or have turned someone else down for that spot, thinking you were coming. We are a small business and cannot absorb loss of time, gas and income the way a big business can. We understand there are sometimes emergencies and we are happy to work with you where we can. Is the old Enhanced Permit 8 hour class needed any more?

THE ENHANCED PERMIT has the same RECIPROCITY* as the less expensive TN Concealed Carry Permit described at the top of this page, with the addition Nebraska. This permit is for both conceal and OPEN carry. The special open carry option (which is what makes this permit more expensive and requires more class time) becomes a moot point after the Permitless (Constitutional) carry law goes into effect 7/1/2021. A FEW people may benefit by getting this permit over the less expensive TN Concealed Carry permit (top of page). People who WILL benefit with the Enhanced Permit are those of you who work at a property owned, operated, or controlled by the public institution of higher education(some colleges, universities, private schools) at which you are employed (and you want to be able to POSSIBLY carry a concealed firearm), or you are a first responder, a future Firearms Instructor or you frequently visit Nebraska (ie trucker). If none of this is part of your life, you will get the coverage you need from the less expensive TN Concealed Carry Permit combined with Permitless Carry when it goes into effect 7/1/2021.

The ENHANCED permit takes more time out of your day (8 hours) which is mandatory for Enhanced permit. The first 5 hours of the TN carry permit class takes place at our location in Wears Valley, Sevier County and there is a 50 question written test you must pass or you have to take the class over. There is also a live-fire qualification afterward, that you must also pass while firing 50 rounds. The Enhanced class and permit cost more, $75 (plus gun rental, ammo and range fees) for the mandatory class, and $100-300+ for the permit. If you fail the test or qualification, you need to take the whole class over again.
